Saline Royale d’Arc et Senans is a marvelous location. At the Franche-Comté several geographical structures meet each other, which declares the diversity of the landscapes. North you can see the hills of the Vosges, South-East the Jura mountains, and in between lowlands, plateaus, and valleys succeed each other. Numerous lakes, rivers, brooks have found their place in these scenery. Seen from the sky the dominating colour is green, as 40% of this area is still covered with woods, and inhabited by carefully protected fauna (wild boars, deer, chamois, lynxes, etc…).

The Gordon Bennett – Regarding the race there is not much activity to be seen. Most of the teams are present and have checked in. The Belgians have arrived too, but nothing will really happen until 15:00h, the moment of the General briefing and the drawing of the starting order.

The entire editorial staff of www.gasballon.be is present. As a member of the jury in the competition Luc (LvG) is staying in the Saline Royale, we on the contrary have to be satisfied with a simple tent… We want to feel what it is like to spend one, two or even three days and nights in a small basket measuring 1m20 by 1m20…

Our technical equipment (digital cameras, a laptop, a mobile phone, …) has forced us to settle down on an official camping with electricity and water laid on. No camping out in the wild for us anymore…
After the General briefing we will be back here with more news.
