9th America’s Challenge™

Did you know that gas balloon flights originating out of Albuquerque have set more long distance records than any other gas ballooning event in the world? That’s one of the reasons we think this race is special! Again this year we will have both helium and hydrogen balloons competing against each other and we will allow mixed nationality teams. If you wish to “fly hydrogen” your balloon must be able to pass a conductivity test. Failure to pass this test will result in the loss of your entry fee since we will already have purchased the gas.

Each team will be required to carry and utilize a tracker. Once the tracker is returned in good condition after flight and used in competition (with no indication of tampering) you will receive 500.00 (USD). We are constantly trying to improve our website and this year is no different. Hopefully our tracking will again be new and improved.

The entry fee for helium will be 1400.00 (USD) and hydrogen is 500.00 (USD) until July 1, 2004. There will be an additional 500.00 (USD) non-refundable late fee after July 1.
America’s Challenge is an invitational event. No application will be accepted after July 31. Balloons may be limited depending on the availability of the gases.

A special invitation to foreign pilots that are registered as pilot-in-command flying either with another international pilot or a US pilot are eligible for a freight subsidy of 1500.00 (USD) provided the balloon is capable of flying hydrogen and meets our registration requirements.
